Catalytic converters — Catalytic converters
Exhaust treatment systems account for over two thirds of total palladium consumption. Palladium-based catalytic converters for gases in automobile exhaust systems are mandatory and regulated by the government in most countries. With its unique catalytic properties, palladium ensures the effectiveness of chemical reactions throughout the car’s lifetime.

Electronics — Electronics
Today, the electronics industry uses palladium for capacitors, relays, contacts, and microchips. The metal is most widely used as part of silver-palladium pastes and platinum-palladium alloys. Palladium and its alloys are essential for electronics as sulphide-resistant coatings.

Chemical industry — Chemical industry
As an excellent catalyst, palladium is key to the fat hydrogenation processes, production of acetylene, ammonia, chlorine, sulphuric and nitric acids, caustic soda, fertilisers, and pharmaceutical products. Palladium chloride is used to detect the slightest traces of carbon monoxide in gas mixtures. The metal is also employed in the processes of fine purification of hydrogen.

Medicine — Medicine
Palladium-containing alloys are widespread as components of dentures and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. Palladium is important for the production of artificial cardiac pacemakers. Along with its alloys, the metal is used for a variety of medical devices and instruments and also as a component of cytostatic medications.

Jewellery — Jewellery
950 palladium alloy is often used for engagement rings. Jewellers also use an alloy of palladium and indium, which can change colour from gold yellow to purple. In combination with gold, palladium helps develop a white colour (the so-called white gold): the addition of palladium can turn 6x volume of gold white.

Investment — Investment
Along with gold, platinum, and other precious metals, palladium is widely used as an investment tool. Investments may vary from coins and smaller bars to investments in ETFs, which accumulate large amounts of metal in the form of standard-sized bars, and metal accounts in banks.
